With Natalie Lowe, Joanne Clifton and Oksana Platero all saying goodbye to the Strictly dancefloor, three new dancers have been recruited to help whip this year’s batch of celebrities into shape.

Amy Dowden is heading to the Strictly dancefloor for the first time, alongside Dianne Buswell and Nadia Bychkova. They will be joining familiar faces such as Anton du Beke, Brendan Cole, Kevin Clifton, Karen Clifton and Janette Manrara among the ranks of the Strictly pros.

Who is Amy Dowden?

Caerphilly-born Amy Dowden has been dancing since the age of eight and says joining Strictly is a dream come true. The current British National Champion, Amy is one of the highest-ranking Ballroom and Latin American professional dancers in the UK. In 2015 she reached the semi-final of the World Championship.

Amy usually dances professionally with partner Ben Jones from their base in Wolverhampton. Amy told International Dance Shoes that after a big competition she likes to go back to see her family in Wales for a bit. When they are not competing, Amy and Ben teach dance and Zumba classes around the Midlands.

Away from dance, Amy likes to relax by swimming.

Favourite dance: Rumba.
