Karen joined Strictly in 2012 after first appearing on the US series So You Think You Can Dance.  Since then she has been a show mainstay, going on to reach the final with Mark Wright.

Her husband may be ‘Kevin from Grimsby’, but Karen is ‘Karen from Venezuela’. Here’s what you need to know:

Who is Karen Clifton?

Originally from Venezuela, Karen moved to New York when she was eight years old. She is the United Amateur American Rhythm National Champion and Professional World Mambo Champion.

As a teen in New York, Karen attended the New York High School of Performing Arts, better known as the school from Fame, as well as the prestigious Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance.

She has also appeared in the West End sensation Burn The Floor as a principal dancer – where she met her husband Kevin.

Of the two, Karen was the first to join the Strictly family as a pro dancer – in 2012. Kevin followed in 2013.

Karen and husband and dance partner Kevin have recently toured the country with their dance show – which told the story of their romance through dance.

“Kevin is so energetic, he brings such great presence onto the dance floor,” Karen told Hello!

“We bring such different styles from our different backgrounds but it tends to work. Some people in the past didn’t believe that it would be able to work but we proved them wrong!”

Karen – and Kevin – are so passionate about dance that everywhere becomes a potential dancefloor.

“Everywhere we are is a creative space for us, especially our home,” Karen added to Hello!

“Our living room is where we create all of our routines. I work out with the chicken in the kitchen – when I’m cooking.

“We don’t stop! Even in the shower Kevin’s coming up with dances, and for me it’s the kitchen, when I’m cooking. We dance in our bedroom, our house is one big dance space!”

Best-ever finish: Karen reached the 2014 Strictly final with Mark Wright, placing fourth.

Worst-ever finish: 2016’s edition of Strictly saw Karen’s worst finish, in 13th place, when partner Will Young withdrew from the show.

Former celebrity partners: Nicky Byrne, Dave Myers, Mark Wright, Jeremy Vine, Will Young.
