Later dance training took in Ballroom and Latin as well as tap and modern dance. In 2008, he was introduced to Katya Sokolova in Blackpool. They would go on to become hugely successful professional partners – they’re the undefeated four-time British National Champions and the three-time winners of the World Amateur Latin Championships.

The partnership would also prove to be successful on a personal level – Neil and Katya married in 2013 and she is of course, a fellow Strictly pro, known by her married name Katya Jones.

Outside of dancing, they have a range of apparel called The Joneses’ Apparel – a unisex clothing line which comes complete with a QR code which links to interactive content.

“I started The Joneses’ Apparel because I knew that Katya loved it all so much,” Neil explained to the Daily Mail.

“I got her started and I was like ‘you design it and I'm going to fund it and now it’s yours. We still work on it together but it's yours’.”

Best-ever finish: Neil hasn’t competed on the main version of the show yet.
