Hollywood actress Anna Kendrick is a triple threat: she can act, sing and dance. And the perfect opportunity to showcase her abundance of talent came when she starred in Pitch Perfect, the hilarious comedy about the antics of a university cappella troupe.
Now a trilogy, you can buy and watch each of these hit movies on BT TV Store. And to get ready for these awesome movies, find out what makes Anna Kendrick such a star:
She started out in musical theatre…
Anna had a passion for musical theatre from a young age and got her first big break at just the age of 12 when she played Dinah Lord in Cole Porter’s legendary High Society on Broadway. She was even nominated for a Tony Award for her performance – the third youngest nominated performer ever.
…And did amazingly well during her lip sync battle
Anna showed she’s a good sport and could easily have a second career as a pop princess when she competed against Josh Krasinski on Lip Sync Battle on US channel Spike in 2015. Performing Iggy Azalea and Jennifer Lopez’s Booty, co-host Jennifer Lopez was so impressed she even joined her at the end of her performance.
And Anna ended a hilarious twist to her lip sync rendition of One Direction’s ‘Steal My Girl’ by declaring her love for Krasinski’s wife, fellow actress Emily Blunt.
She was in the Twilight movies
It’s easy to forget the phenomenon of the Twilight movies between 2008-2012, but at the time they were unavoidable and the object of millions of teenage girls' (and in many case their mums') obsessions around the world.
While Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner were arguably the breakout stars of the cast, Anna appeared in the first three movies as Jessica Stanley – a high school friend of Bella (played by Stewart).
She’s an Oscar nominated actress
Anna may be predominantly known for her comedic roles but she’s starred in plenty of acclaimed films - perhaps most notably as Natalie Keener in 2009’s comedy drama Up in the Air alongside George Clooney.
Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role, she played a new executive who wants to put an end to announcing downsizing and redundancies at major corporations as face to face encounters to purely digital.
In an attempt to prove her idea wrong, Ryan (Clooney) takes her cross country to prove the purposefulness of delivering bad news in person. Receiving rave reviews across the board, Up in the Air was chosen by The National Board of Review as the best movie of 2009.
She achieved international fame with Pitch Perfect
While Anna has starred on Broadway and appeared in some of the biggest selling movies of all time, she didn’t become a household name until she starred in Pitch Perfect in 2012. As the lead character, her co-stars include Brittany Snow, Rebel Wilson and Anna Camp.
The movie about an all-girls university Capella group of hilarious misfits was a surprise hit, grossing over $115 million against a $17 million budget. Demonstrating both her incredible singing and acting abilities, the movie proved both her talent and mainstream marketability as a leading lady.
