Christmas may be just around the corner, but not everyone wants to cosy up to Home Alone or Love Actually all day long.

Discovery Live: Into the Blue Hole

Discovery Live: Into the Blue Hole airs live on Sunday, December 2 from 9-11pm on Discovery Channel (BT channel 322/376 HD).

What’s it about?

The Discovery Channel takes viewers on an incredible adventure to the bottom of the legendary Blue Hole, the largest submerged sinkhole in the world, off the coast of Belize.

Sir Richard Branson, explorer Jacques Cousteau’s grandson Fabien Cousteau and submarine pilot Erica Bergman, will attempt to take their Stingray 500 submersible to the bottom of the Blue Hole in a Discovery first.

Why watch it?

The Blue Hole, its crystal-clear waters filled with an abundance of sharks, has only ever been properly explored once before: by the legendary Jacques Cousteau himself back in 1971.

The Marvelous Mrs Maisel season 2

Marvelous Mrs Maisel season 2

When is it on?

Season 2 of The Marvelous Mrs Maisel will be available to stream on Prime Video from Wednesday, December 5.

What’s it about?

Set in 1950s New York, season 1 of The Marvelous Mrs Maisel introduced viewers to Miriam ‘Midge’ Maisel (Rachel Brosnahan, House of Cards), a beautiful Jewish housewife who seemed to have it all.

But that all changed when her husband Joel left her, so Midge went on a drunken rampage and leapt on stage, kicking off a stand-up comedy career.

In season 2, the fallout from her takedown of Sophie Lennon (Jane Lynch) looms large after Midge's triumph at the Gaslight, making her climb up the comedy ladder more challenging than ever.

As the actual grind of being a comic begins to take its toll on Midge, the pressure to come clean to her family weighs on her - especially as her choices have a ripple effect on everyone around her.

Why watch it?

A critical success, season 1 of the Prime Video series swept the board in the 2018 awards season, scooping two Golden Globes – Best Television Series (musical or comedy) and Best Actress for Rachel Brosnahan as Midge - plus a whopping eight Emmy awards.

The Clinton Affair premieres with a two-episode double bill on Saturday, December 8 at 9pm on History UK (BT channel 327/379 HD).

What’s it about?

The Clinton Affair is a six-part documentary series examining the presidential political scandal of the 1990s and its lasting influence on the United States.

It reveals an America bitterly divided, charting the story of the vast right-wing conspiracy against the Clintons, and the West Wing conspiracy against Monica Lewinsky.

Why watch it?

The Clinton Affair boasts exclusive access to the former White House intern who nearly brought down an American President - Monica Lewinsky.

Care

Care

When is it on?

Care airs on Sunday, December 9 at 9pm on BBC One. Don’t miss it with BT TV - catch up via the BBC iPlayer app.

What’s it about?

Based on an amazing true story, Care is a one-off drama starring Sheridan Smith that tells the story of how one family struggles to look after their oldest and youngest members.

It’s inspired by the real-life experiences of Gillian Juckes, who has co-written the script with Jimmy McGovern, famous for his work on Brookside, Cracker, The Lakes and Accused.

Why watch it?

The issues explored in Care will ring true with so many viewers – how to balance the needs of caring for young children and older relatives when money is too tight to get help with either.

Death on The Tyne

Death on the Tyne

When is it on?

Death on the Tyne airs on Saturday, December 15 at 9.20pm on Gold (BT channel number 310).

What’s it about?

Following the huge success of last year's one-off drama Murder on the Blackpool Express, Terry (Johnny Vegas) and Gemma (Sian Gibson) return to our screens along with a whole host of comedy greats for a brand-new murder mystery caper.

Tour worker Terry is back on another ill-fated trip, but this time he’s ditched the coach and will be leading a cruise from Newcastle to Amsterdam.

Why watch it?

Alongside Vegas and Gibson, Death on the Tyne features an ensemble cast including Sheila Reid, Sue Johnston, Felicity Montagu, Doon Mackichan, Georgie Glen, Don Gilet, Tony Gardner, James Fleet, Taj Atwal and David Mumeni.

Most Ridiculous Christmas and Roast Battle Xmas Special

Most Ridiculous Christmas

When is it on?

Roast Battle Xmas Special airs on Monday, December 10 at 10pm and Most Ridiculous Christmas airs on Wednesday, December 19 at 8.30pm - on Comedy Central (BT channel 307 HD).

What’s it about?

Jimmy Carr, Katherine Ryan and Jonathan Ross are joined by Santa Claus for a final roast of 2018. Bringing together comics including Ed Gamble, Bobby Mair, Desiree Burch and Suzi Ruffell , there will be festive insults and rotten brussell sprouts thrown as the contestants duke it out to be crowned the Xmas Champion.

Meanwhile, Radio 1's Greg James is back on Most Ridiculous duties, providing the voice over for the funniest, daftest and most outrageous new clips. Given a festive makeover, we can expect the very best Christmas party disasters, snow slip-ups and Xmas Day accidents aplenty - all caught on camera by members of the public.

Roast Battle has the hottest new stand-up talents in the country firing on all cylinders and Most Ridiculous is You've Been Framed for the selfie generation. They're the perfect antidote to bland and inane Christmas films.

The England football manager will tackle some of the UK’s toughest terrain as he joins adventurer Bear on a mission across some of the country’s most rugged, unspoilt moorlands for this one-off ITV special.

Southgate made headlines for his unflappable nature during the World Cup - but will he remain cool, calm and collected during the challenge?

Bird Box

When is it on?

Bird Box will be available to stream on Netflix from Friday, December 21.

What’s it about?

Sandra Bullock stars in this post-apocalyptic thriller as a mother trying to get her two children to safety in a world overrun with monsters.

Why watch it?

The Netflix original movie has been compared to critically-acclaimed film The Quiet Place, as both thrillers are based on the senses, with Bird Box focused on sound instead of vision.

A (Walter) White Christmas

Breaking Bad airs every night at 9pm on AMC, from Monday, December 24 to Sunday, December 30, in a TV stunt called A (Walter) White Christmas. AMC is exclusive to BT TV customers and can be found on channel number 332/381 HD.

What’s it about?

This December, AMC brings BT TV customers every single episode of one of the greatest ever TV shows, Breaking Bad. Over seven nights, see mild-mannered high school chemistry teacher Walter White (Bryan Cranston) transform into the ruthless Heisenberg.

Morecambe and Wise in America

When is it on?

Morecambe and Wise in America airs Thursday, December 27 at 8pm on Gold.

What’s it about?

The story of Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise attempting to break the US has never been told to a British TV audience.

The three-episode retrospective tells the tale of Eric and Ernie’s five year quest to become stars in the United States.

Why watch it?

The show is presented by comedian Jonathan Ross and includes over an hour of footage that has never been seen in the UK.
