Kingsman: The Golden Circle - Available to buy now in the BT TV Store
Kingsman: The Golden Circle is the 2017 sequel to 2014’s Kingsman: The Secret Service, the spy comedy hit in which Firth shines in his first major action role. And in the sequel Firth’s lead character returns seemingly back from the dead as Harry Hart who along with his Kingsman’s cronies must unite with an American allied spy organisation to combat a new enemy. Funny and yet terribly exciting, these movies are one of the times you’ll get to see the usual stiff-upper-lip Firth in a action packed role.
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy - Available to buy now in the BT TV Store
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is a spy drama set in the Cold War in the early 1970s. A double agent is believed to be operating at the heart of the British secret service, and Colin Firth plays Billy Haydon, a straight-talking spy who is determined to oust the hidden traitor. With a stellar supporting cast that includes Benedict Cumberbatch, John Hurt, Mark Strong and Gary Oldman, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy received fantastic reviews and was nominated for three Academy Awards.
A Single Man - Available to buy now in the BT TV Store
Tom Ford’s directorial debut A Single Man starred Colin Firth as a depressed British professor in California in 1962. Having lost his male partner in a tragic accident, he is seen grappling with thoughts of suicide and spends a day visiting his old friend (Julianne Moore) and his students and colleagues in a bid to help him make a final decision. Heart-breaking and stunningly acted, Colin Firth was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor.
Bridget Jones's Diary - Available to buy now in the BT TV Store
It’s impossible not to mention the Bridget Jones trilogy when thinking of Colin Firth. The original 2001 movie is the best of the bunch as we are introduced to Colin Firth as the awkward but loveable Mark Darcy. Renee Zellweger plays Bridget, the troubled but hilarious thirty-something London singleton who suddenly finds herself torn between Darcy's apparent cold fish and the charming but naughty Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant).
Love Actually - Available to buy now in the BT TV Store
Firth proved his comedic abilities again in the Christmas favourite Love Actually. In one of an ensemble of stories spotlighting Londoners seeking love at Christmas-time, Colin Firth plays Jamie, a writer who escapes to France after discovering his girlfriend cheating on him with his brother. He falls in love with his Portuguese housekeeper Aurelia, and although neither speaks the other's language, they soon fall in love. Funny, charming and a real crowd-pleaser, Love Actually has become one of the most beloved British movies of all time.
Nanny McPhee - Available to buy now in the BT TV Store
Firth has appeared in several hit children’s movies – including Nanny McPhee. Starring alongside Emma Thompson in this family-friendly comedy fantasy, Colin plays Cedric Brown, the well-meaning but clueless widower and father to seven wild kids. In a bid to instil order, he welcomes the mysterious yet kindly Nanny McPhee into his home – the twist it that her unsightly appearance improves in line with the children’s improved behaviour.
