Dad’s Army 50th anniversary celebrations revealed: Watch the very first episode

Gold Channel will mark the classic British sitcom’s birthday with a week of programming dedicated to the Jimmy Perry and David Croft masterpiece.

On 31st July, 1968, BBC One aired the first ever episode of Dad’s Army, introducing Britain to the classic characters Captain Mainwaring, Sergeant Wilson and Lance Corporal Jones.

The show would quickly become a comedy classic, running for nine years and 80 episodes – an incredible run for an idea based on Jimmy Perry’s early life in the Watford Home Guard during World War II.
