One of the biggest shows of the 80s, boasting big names such as Joan Collins, John Forsythe, Heather Locklear and Stephanie Beacham, Dynasty, has been rebooted in a joint collaboration of CW channel and Netflix.
The reboot promises to boast just as much drama, intrigue and twists as the original – and hopefully a lot of big hair too.
Here’s all we know about Netflix’s 2017 Dynasty so far:
What is Dynasty about?
Dynasty will begin with beautiful but spoiled billionaire heiress Fallon Carrington irritated to discover that her ageing father Blake Carrington is engaged to his company’s employee, the young and attractive PR executive Cristal.
Fallon hopes to run her dad’s empire one day, and already threatened by her gay brother Steven’s presence, only sees Cristal as another hurdle in her quest for power.
Meanwhile, she’s having a fling with the hunky family chauffeur Michael who enlists to help and expose Cristal as a cheater. Little does she know that Cristal still has feelings for her ex-lover Matthew Blaisdell.
To make things even more complicated Cristal’s nephew Sam Flores is a gold-digger with a mission – to snag the male Carrington heir – Fallon’s brother Steven.
Based on these initial premises, we can only imagine this will provide just as much (if not more) soap opera worthy action as the original.
Is the New Dynasty the same as the old one?
If you were a fan of the original, you’ll likely see a few things have been switched around from the above. For one Cristal is no longer a secretary but a career minded executive, and in the 2017 version she’s of Hispanic descent.
Also resident gold-digger Sam Flores is now a gay man, not the female Sammy Jo as in the original.
What’s more, the chauffeur Michael is now played by an African American and the setting for the show has transferred from Denver, Colorado to Atlanta.
As to whether Joan Collins' iconic Alexis Colby character will be popping up, is still unconfirmed, but it is important to remember that her character didn’t appear until the first series finale.
