Marvel’s The Punisher: What we know so far

Netflix releases the first trailer for Marvel’s The Punisher. Watch the clip and find out more about this latest chapter in the Marvel Universe.

In the wake of Marvel’s all-star superhero The Defenders being released, comes the first official trailer for Netflix latest superhero offering – Marvel’s The Punisher.

Netflix has had huge success with their Marvel series, which includes Marvel’s Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist, and The Punisher is Daredevil's first Netflix spinoff.

The Walking Dead actor Jon Bernthal made such an incredible impression on series 2 of The Daredevil as Frank Castle - aka The Punisher - that Marvel decided to create an entire new Netflix series around him.

Many of the details of this hotly awaited new series are being tightly held under wraps by Netflix, but here’s what we know so far:

The Story

the punisher

In typical Marvel style, The Punisher is set in New York City. In Daredevil, we saw Francis ‘Frank’ Castle as a retired military man whose idyllic life took a tragic turn when his wife and two children were murdered by the mafia after they witnessed a murder in Central Park.

Determined to seek revenge, Frank transformed into The Punisher, a superhero who will do whatever it takes to avenge his family and prevent the mob from committing further crimes. His acts know no limits and he will engage just about any means of violence to see that justice is served – including torture and murder.

The Punisher takes off where Daredevil left off. Now having successfully avenged the ones he loved the most, he is intent on stopping any future mob crimes in the city. As he starts to take on the violent city’s underworld, he quickly discovers that there is a far greater and even more sinister conspiracy afoot.

In the show’s first trailer, Francis declares: “All the things that I’d done. Memories, they never hurt me. But the past is more than memories. It’s the Devil you sold your soul to. He’s coming. He’s coming to collect.”
