Jennifer Lawrence has had a meteoric rise to fame in Hollywood over the last decade, fast becoming one of the big screen’s highest-paid and most sought-after stars.
As one of her more recent smashes, Red Sparrow, comes to BT TV Store, take a look at some of her biggest triumphs.
Winter’s Bone – 2010
Jennifer had enjoyed a fair few roles early in her career, including a two-year run on The Bill Engvall Show, but Winter’s Bone was the first one that made her a star.
She featured as a gutsy mountain girl who set out to find her drug-dealing father whilst trying to keep the rest of her family intact.
The film was in the running for four Oscars, including a best actress nomination for Jennifer.
X-Men – 2011 onwards
She has played the character Raven/Mystique in First Class, Days of Future Past and Apocalypse so far, and is signed up to come back again in 2019 for Dark Phoenix.
Her X-Men co-stars include Nicholas Hoult, Evan Peters, Sophie Turner, Michael Fassbender, and James McAvoy.
The Hunger Games - 2012 – 2015
Jennifer has been lucky enough to land starring roles in not one, but two film franchises, playing the lead character in the film adaptations of Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games novels.
As Katniss Everdeen, Jennifer established herself as an action hero to be reckoned with, fighting off some terrifying rivals in the story of a dystopian future where teens are tasked with killing each other off for sport.
With her co-stars Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Willow Shields, Elizabeth Banks and Stanley Tucci, Jennifer featured in The Hunger Games and its sequels Catching Fire and Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2, picking up three Golden Globe nominations between them.
Silver Linings Playbook – 2012
It also set up her long-running screen partnership with Bradley Cooper, her co-star in the story about an unlikely relationship, as well as their collaborations with director David O. Russell.
Bradley played an ex-teacher who moved back in with his parents after a stint in a mental institution and tried to reconcile with his ex-wife, but instead met Jennifer’s character who was dealing with plenty of issues of her own.
American Hustle – 2013
Golden duo Jennifer and Bradley were reunited in American Hustle as just two of an all-star cast who (almost) stole the show at every awards ceremony in the industry.
American Hustle’s complicated plot involved a con-man and his partner being signed up to work alongside an FBI agent with a cast that included Amy Adams and Christian Bale, and was directed by David O. Russell.
It picked up 10 Oscar nominations with a best supporting actress nod for Jennifer, a category which she won at the Golden Globes and Baftas.
Joy – 2015
Back with David O. Russell again for biopic Joy, this time the director chose Jennifer to carry the cast in the title role.
She played a stressed-out single mother who was down on her luck career-wise, but was the genius brain behind a number of inventions including a self-squeezing mop which eventually made her a fortune.
Of course, Russell also signed up his other favourite star, with Bradley Cooper in the role of the shopping channel TV exec who helped and hindered Joy in her quest to become a successful entrepreneur.
Jennifer was nominated for a best actress Oscar for the film, and won the category at the Golden Globes.
Red Sparrow – 2018
The spy thriller features her as a ballerina who is recruited to a Russian intelligence service and challenged to take on a CIA agent in a risky mission.
See Jennifer as part of a stellar cast that features Joel Edgerton, Matthias Schoenaerts, Joely Richardson, Jeremy Irons and Charlotte Rampling in this must-see thriller.
