Bringing together LEGO and Star Wars was always going to be a recipe for a hit, but not even the biggest fan of all things brick and Jedi could have anticipated the success of the Star Wars:The Freemaker Adventures.

Set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, the first season’s 13 episodes features classic Star Wars characters and the usual Lego blend of inventiveness and fun.

A new season of adventures are about to air on Disney XD (BT TV channel 482) in the UK are here are five reasons it’s time to pick up your lightsabre and dive in.

1. An intergalactic story

This isn’t a cheap cash-in. The Freemaker Adventures stands on its own two block legs as fantastic Star Wars story.

Following the Freemakers as they scour the galaxy for scraps to build their own vehicles, the series gets a dramatic twist when the trio of heroes discover part of the ancient Kyber Saber and suddenly find themselves as a prime target for the dark forces.

What follows is an unforgettable adventure as the Freemakers search for Kyber crystals and the Empire chase them down.

2. The heroes

Who are The Freemakers?

They are a trio of siblings, including 12-year-old Rowan, who is a courageous, adventurous and Force-sensitive.

Sister Kordi is the brains of the family, who holds the trio together, while Zander is the oldest sibling who has a little bit of Han Solo about him – he’s a charming rogue and ace pilot.

The trio are supported by refurbished battle droid R0-GR, who somehow always manages to cause chaos.

3. Classic Star Wars characters

Star Wars nuts will love the nods to the classic film characters. The first series was filled with cameos from villains Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader and heroes Lando, Luke and Leia.

Who will be popping up in season 2? You’ll have to wait to find out.

4. LEGO laughs

Anyone who has seen any of the LEGO movies will know that the brand can do seriously funny comedy. The Freemaker Adventures doesn’t hold back on the humour.

Filled with big laughs for adults and kids, everyone loves the Palpatine/Vader relationship, family squabbling with the Freemakers and ribbing bounty hunters.

5. Inspire your kids

The problem with fantastic kids shows is that it can be difficult to stop them watching the same episodes over and over again.

The beauty of Freemakers is that the series inspires kids to get creative with their own adventures. Not only will them with a sense of wonder and excitement, but The Freemaker Adventure LEGO sets mean that kids can recreate their favourite characters stories and create their own world for Rown, Kordi and Zander.
