What are the Frankie Drake Mysteries?

Frankie Drake Mysteries

Set in 1920s Toronto, the series follows the adventures of Frankie Drake and her partner Trudy Clarke at Drake Private Detectives, the city’s only all-female detective agency, as they find themselves fighting crime in the age of flyboys, gangsters, rum-runners, and speakeasies

Jazz is on the turntables while communism and prohibition are being hotly debated over hard drinks in speakeasies. Society will never be the same – and crime has never had it better. The Drake Private Detectives take on cases that explore Toronto’s many vibrant neighbourhoods from gospel church choirs, the early cinema scene to private parties of the city’s elite. They are new detectives for a new world – but is the world ready for them?

Who is Frankie Drake?

Frankie Drake Mysteries

Frankie is a go-getting gal who is determined to take advantage of the new freedom offered to women. Her gender is, in fact, her biggest advantage - who would ever think a female could be a detective?

As a woman in a man's world, Frankie defies convention and has a knack for solving cases with her uncanny intuition and deduction skills. But she's no cop - her brand of justice doesn't always follow the law.

Together with her partner Trudy Clarke, Frankie and the Drake Detective Agency take on cases of all shapes and sizes, from airplanes and booze-running to American G-men, Communists and union busters. Frankie and Trudy's fearless sense of adventure get them into all kinds of trouble, but they always manage to find a way out.

What do the cast say about the show?

Frankie Drake Mysteries

Lauren Lee Smith:

Frankie is very much ahead of her time. She’s this fearless adrenaline-junkie go-getter who makes up her own rules. It’s 1921, women across North America had only just been given the right to vote a year earlier. There was a new freedom – women were allowed to smoke cigarettes and dance! So Frankie is taking full advantage of that. She opens up the only female private detective agency in Toronto, along with her pal Trudy Clarke. And they take on the cases that the police don’t want to touch, or cases that people don’t want to go to the police with. And, being women, they’re able to get into some situations that men perhaps wouldn’t be able to.

Chantel Riley:

Trudy is strong, smart and very talented. She’s loyal and protective of Frankie, and she doesn’t trust people as quickly as Frankie does. I love her boldness and that she’s fearless. She thinks nothing of going into empty scary basements, that I would never dream of going into, or chasing after these crazy bad guys.

UK fans can look forward to watching some badass chicks kick some butt in the 1920s. You got booze, you got drugs, you got murder, you got gangsters. And everyone loves that era – the fashion, the lingo, the jazz music.

When does it air in the UK?
