Total Divas, the hit E! reality show is about to start its 7th series. Set in the tumultuous and surprisingly compelling world of female WWE stars, known as Divas, this series it is set to be a case of the OG divas vs. new four Divas on the scene.
We chatted exclusively with WWE veteran Natalya Neidhart and Total Divas newbies Alexa Bliss, Carmella and Nia Jax.
Here’s why they think it is set to be the most tantalising season yet:
There are new girls in town
WWE stars but Total Divas newbies Alexa Bliss, Carmella and Nia Jax will be joining the existing line-up that including OG Natalya Neidhart and of course the Bella twins Brie and Nikki Bella.
Each of the new girls said they’re ready to show their true personas on camera and of course stir things up a bit in the ring.
“I’m excited to be on Total Divas! It has helped me show who I really am both inside and outside of the ring and you’ll also be seeing me dating my boyfriend Big Cass (WWE wrestler),” said Carmella.
But Natalya says she isn’t threatened by the new girls and still feels very much a part of the franchise.
“I am an OG on the show and at the beginning of the season I didn’t drink and by this season I like a good glass of Pinot Noir!
"I love doing the show, I have a very strong personal connection with the show I have been in the very beginning when we weren’t sure if we would make it past 8 episodes!
"People really fell in love with the girls and WWE in some ways the start of Total Divas it really peaked peoples interest in female wrestlers in WWE and I think that really helped moved along revolution in the WWE. I am very lucky to be a part of it.”
Nia is The Rock’s cousin
New Total Diva Nia Jax is none other than Dwayne Johnson aka “The Rock” cousin. She debuted on the WWE scene back in 2015 after auditioning anonymously and not revealing her A list wrestling connection.
She says Dwayne has been a fantastic supporter and says he’ll be tuning into the new season.
“I didn’t tell anyone who I was and I tried out and got it! Dwayne is super supportive he is supportive of me doing my own thing and making a name for myself and he’s really excited!,” said Nia.
Body positivity is embraced
Nia and Alexa are best friends in real life and one thing they are both truly passionate about is body positivity, which we will see plenty of on the new show.
“Nia and I are genuinely best friends. This has never really been shown on Total Divas before. Of course there’s the Bella Twins but they are born into their friendship!” Alexa told us.
“We get to shine our on body positivity that we are both very passionate about. Alexa has suffered from an eating disorder and me being a bigger woman – we want to show that women of all shapes and sizes can do this and be athletic and still be beautiful,” Nia said.
It’s Natalya’s turn to shine
Natalya, or Nattie as she’s often known as, has been on the season since series 1, but often fans of the show have often said it seems like she’s often in the sidelines. However, this season is her time to shine.
Daughter of WWE legend Jim 'The Anvil' Neidhart, she is from a family of successful wrestlers and has been a WWE wrestler since 2000. Finally as of August 20, 2017 she has been the WWE’s SmackDown Women’s Champion in her first reign – something that she’s thrilled will be covered in the upcoming season:
“You will see exactly what it is was like winning the SmackDown’s Women’s Championship which has been seven seasons in the making. I started the show off in series one with everyone saying “Natty is the underdog, will she ever get a chance?” and four and a half years later I got that chance and to be able to share it on the show is amazing!
Crazy drama is guaranteed
As far as drama goes in series 8, all roads seem to lead to fellow Diva Lana, real name Catherine Joe Perry. While Natalya says she’s good friends with Lana, drama is guaranteed when she’s around:
“There are moments when I do want to pull my hair out at work like with Lana! I love her to death but she is very, very intense. There are moments you will see on this new season of Total Divas where it is just too much it takes a very special person to handle Lana! There is a reason why I throw her phone into the ocean!”
While Nia says she’s on not so great terms with her on the show:
“Obviously everyone runs into the psycho train of Lana at some point…there will definitely be some run ins!” Nia said.
Total Divas returns to E! on Sundays at 6pm BT Channel 321/386 HD.
