Madison Clark (Kim Dickens)

Kim Dickens in Fear the Walking Dead

Madison is a high school guidance counsellor and a widowed mother, who raised her two children Nick and Alicia single-handedly.

She has found love with English teacher Travis Manawa, but the pressures and battle for survival threatens to reveal secrets about her past.

Madison’s troubled relationship with her drug addict son Nick was put under strain in series one, but she proved herself resourceful and ready to make hard choices to survive and look after her family in series one.

In the opening half of series two, Madison saw her family ripped apart as Nick abandoned her again, opting to head off into the wilderness alone.

Fear the Walking Dead series 2

Travis has left Madison to focus his attention on his own son Chris and, meaning her family has been cut in half and she only has her daughter Alicia alongside her.

In the mid-season finale, Madison proved again that she was willing to make sacrifices and tough decisions, sending series 2 antagonist Celia to her doom.

Madison is played by Kim Dickens, who starred in the Golden Globe Award-winning HBO drama Deadwood from 2004 to 2006.

She also has a guest arc in ABC’s Emmy-winning series Lost as a love interest for Sawyer (Josh Holloway).

You may also recognise her from movies such as Gone Girl, The Blind Side and critically acclaimed TV series such as HBO drama Treme and Friday Night Lights.

Travis Manawa (Cliff Curtis)

Cliff Curtis

Travis is Madison’s partner, a father and an inspirational English teacher. Described as “protective” and “pragmatic”, he has a child, Christopher, from his former marriage, but his relationship with his son is strained.

Travis’s good nature and trust in authority was challenged and pushed to the limit in series one.

He also suffered a tragedy as his first wife Liza Ortiz (Elisabeth Rodriguez) became the latest victim of the infected.

After shooting Liza to prevent her turning, Travis had to live with the guilt of killing his ex-wife and cope with the anger and fury of their son.

Fear the Walking Dead series 2

Travis’s determination to protect Christopher at all costs has placed his loved ones and himself in danger at the end of series two as he abandons the Clark family to do his duty as a father.

Cliff Curtis was one of the stars of American dramas Gang Related and Missing and also appeared on the big screen in Risen alongside Joseph Fiennes.

His other movie credits include Runaway Jury, Blow, Training Day and Three Kings.

Alicia Clark (Alycia Debnam-Carey)

Alycia Debnam-Carey in Fear the Walking Dead

Alicia was an ambitious and talented student - a top-achiever with dreams to escape Los Angeles through her education.

While her older brother Nick’s life had descended into drug addictions and troubles with the law, her outlook looked promising and it was her time to break free from the stresses of family life.

The truth about the outbreak was hidden from Alicia by her family for a large amount of series one and she struggled to come to terms with her boyfriend Matt becoming infected.

Fear the Walking Dead

Her innocence and good faith caused her to make some serious blunders in series two that placed everyone aboard Strand’s boat, Abigail, in serious danger.

Alicia has struggled with loneliness in the apocalypse, but has shown glimpses of ruthlessness and an inner strength which suggests that she has what it takes to survive.

As we head into the second half of series two, Alicia’s relationship with her mother will put to the test as they have to decide what they do about Nick.

One of the ’10 TV actors to watch’, according to TV trade bible Variety, Alicia Debnam-Carey has already made a name for herself in the post-apocalyptic drama The 100.

Nick Clark (Frank Dillane)

Frank Dillane in Fear the Walking Dead

Before the apocalypse, Nick was a drug addict and drop out who caused his family no end of heartbreak and stress.

However, the apocalypse may have given the youngster a second chance as his survival instincts make him a useful person to have around.

In the first series he struck up a bond with the mysterious and wealthy Strand, who believed that Nick would be a good ally in the battle for survival.

Strand’s assumptions were well placed as Nick’s fearlessness served all the survivors well when placed in dangerous situations.

Fear the Walking Dead

He also showcased a softer side to his personality, especially when he found himself with younger survivors.

Nick found himself drawn to Celia and her belief that the infected are just “changed” and not actually dead. He’s also been drawn to walking around with the infected, coated in their blood to avoid being attacked.

What does Nick plan to do next now that he’s abandoned his family?

Harry Potter fans will know Dillane from his role in the Deathly Hallows and Half Blood Prince movies, but his film credits also include Maestro, In the Heart of the Sea and Welcome to Sarajevo.

A RADA-trained actor, he also appeared in the Netflix original series Sense8 earlier this year.

Christopher Manawa (Lorenzo James Henrie)

Lorenzo James Henrie

The divorce of Chris’s parents – Travis and Liza has turned Chris into a teenage rebel.

Resentful of his father and his new life, he wants to be his dad’s sole priority rather than part of a dual family network.

Chris’s world was turned upside down at the end of the first series by the death of his mother Liza.

Unable to accept Travis’s explanation for shooting his mum, Chris went rogue and refused to follow any rules or guidance from the rest of the survivors.

Fear the Walking Dead

His mental state was questioned after Alycia saw him freeze when Madison was attacked by a walker and at the end of the mid-season finale, he appeared to suffering a breakdown.

Travis has given up his new family to protect his son, but is it already too late to save Chris from the new world?

Lorenzo will be recognisable to movie fans for his roles in comedy farce Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2. J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek and lead roles in Riding ’79 and Almost Kings.

He started acting age 8 and appeared in TV series such as NCIS, Malcolm in the Middle and Ghost Whisperer.

Daniel Salazar (Ruben Blades)

Ruben Blades in Fear the Walking Dead

A refugee from El Salvador, Salazar came to America and became a barbershop owner and a proud and private family man.

When the outbreak hit, Salazar proved that he was prepared to do anything to protect those closest to him, but his aggressive and brutal tactics caused friction with the rest of the group.

Secrets about his violent past in El Salvador were exposed to his daughter at the end of series one and his wife Griselda (Patricia Reyes Spindola) was another victim of the outbreak.

Daniel forged bonds with Madison and Chris in series two, but struggled to come to terms with the death of Griselda and visions of his dead wife drove him to torch Celia’s ‘safe’ village.

It was presumed that Daniel had killed himself in the fire in the mid-season finale, but we never saw his body and the show’s producers hinted that we may not have seen the last of him.

The show’s co-creator Gale Anne Hurd said on Talking Dead: Fear Edition: “In the minds of the producers, he’s not dead.”

Ruben Blades is a distinguished actor who has appeared opposite Robert De Niro in Hands of Stone, Michael Fassbender in Ridley Scott’s The Counselor and Denzel Washington in Safe House.

He is also a 10-time Grammy winner for his World Music records.

Ofelia Salazar (Mercedes Mason)

Fear the Walking Dead

Ofelia is Daniel’s daughter, who was very protective of her father as they adapted to the new lifestyle of living in the US.

However, secrets about Daniel’s past in El Salvador and the death of mother left Ofelia lost and in a fragile state at the end of series one.

Ofelia has now been left without a mother or a father, following Daniel’s actions at the end of the series two mid-season finale.

Fear the Walking Dead

Will she have the strength of characters and skills to survive with only Strand, Alicia and Madison at her side as allies?

TV fans will probably recognise Mercedes from the TV series Californication, 666 Park Ave, The Finder and HBO comedy Entourage.

Victor Strand (Colman Domingo)

Colman Domingo in Fear the Walking Dead

The mysterious and enigmatic Strand hooked up with Nick in series one, when they both found themselves quarantined together.

Strand helped Nick and his family escape to his lavish home at the end of the first series and he plans to escape Los Angeles on his boat.

However, whether he can be trusted and who he is happy to take with him as “crew” remains to be seen.

The mysterious and enigmatic Strand forged an allianc with Nick in series one, when they both found themselves quarantined together.

Fear the Walking Dead

Strand helped Nick and his family escape to his lavish home at the end of the first series and he revealed his big plan to escape Los Angeles on his boat.

After taking control and leading the survivors to ‘safety’ at sea, Strand showcased how ruthless he could be, refusing to take aboard other passengers and cutting the rope holding the Flight 462 survivors dinghy to his boat, the Abigail.

It was finally revealed that Strand’s plan was to reach a ‘safe haven’ where his partner, Thomas Abigail was residing. Strand’s actions were for love, but he was too late in arriving at his destination and Thomas (Dougray Scott) had become infected.

After being thrown out of the compound by Celia, Strand showed his loyal side and bond with the group, returning to take Madison, Alicia and Ofelia to safety.

Alex (Michelle Ang)

Fear the Walking Dead

One of the survivors of the Flight 462 mini-series, which preceded series two of Fear the Walking Dead, Alex appeared to have extra knowledge of the outbreak.

In only a couple of short appearances in the first half of series two, Alex proved herself to be fiercely loyal, resourceful and willing to do whatever it takes to survive.

After being cut off the Abigail by Strand, Alex showed up again when Travis and Alicia were taken hostage and clearly wasn’t ready to forgive the actions of the survivors . Whether she will return for a third time remains to be seen.

Michelle Ang has appeared in TV series such as Grey’s Anatomy, Top of the Lake, Drop Dead Diva, Perception and Rizzoli & Isles in recent years.

New arrivals

Introduced to fans at Comic-Con 2016, Luciana will have a key role to play in the new episodes when she meets Nick.

She is one of the leaders of a community in Tijuana, Mexico , who believe that walkers aren’t neccesarily a bad thing.

Luciana has been described as a “badass soldier” who forms a bond with Nick and frequently puts him in his place.
