James Nesbitt has revealed his starring role in new action drama Lucky Man is the closest he will ever come to playing 007.
The star of The Hobbit and The Missing will play DI Harry Clayton in the new Sky1 thriller written by comic book legend Stan Lee.
Detective Harry thinks his luck has changed when he finds a magic bracelet that seems to make things all go his way, but he ends up the target of someone very nasty who wants the bangle back.
The drama series – due to hit screens early next year – sees the 50-year-old actor dashing about in action sequences, including driving a speedboat on the Thames, just like James Bond star Daniel Craig did recently.
James told the Radio Times: “It’s the nearest I will get to James Bond. Five years ago they were talking about me doing that, but now I have got this.”
Marvel writer Stan Lee is one of the co-creators of iconic comic characters including Spider-man, Iron Man, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Fantastic Four and X-Men.
He said: “Luck has always been a fascinating subject to me, and I am excited to finally share that fascination with audiences around the world. With all the creative projects I have worked on, I sure am a lucky man myself and I am excited to be working with Sky1 and Carnival Films on this latest project.”
The 10-part series will also star Nurse Jackie’s Eve Best, Fortitude actress Sienna Guillory, Spy star Darren Boyd and comedian Omid Djalili.
