What is Ozark about?

Ozark follows the story of Marty Byrde (Jason Bateman), a Chicago financial advisor who’s been secretly laundering money for a powerful drug lord. After things go awry, Marty is forced to uproot his entire family to the remote Ozarks. There, he’s faced with continuing his illegal ways to try to pay off his debt while trying to fit in with the locals – and avoiding the many obstacles that cross his path.

Who stars in Ozark?

Jason Bateman – best known for playing Michael Bluth in cult comedy Arrested Development – is taking a walk on the dramatic side in Ozark by playing protagonist Marty Byrde. You may also have seen him in Horrible Bosses and Juno. In addition to starring in Ozark, Jason also directed several episodes and acted as executive producer for the series.

Oscar-nominated actress Laura Linney plays Marty’s wife, Wendy. You may have seen her on the big screen in Mystic River, You Can Count On Me or The Savages – or on the small screen in The Big C or John Adams.

The cast is rounded out by Jason Butler Harner (The Blacklist, Alcatraz) who plays Roy Petty and Julia Garner (The Americans, Girls) who plays 19-year-old Ruth, who Marty comes across in the Ozarks.

Where are the Ozarks?

The Ozarks, where the drama is set, is another way of referring to the Ozark Mountain Country, which runs across four states of the USA – Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.

Ozark itself is set in an area called Lake of the Ozarks, a massive reservoir with 1,150 miles of shoreline, in Missouri.

The critically acclaimed 2010 film Winter’s Bone, which launched the career of Jennifer Lawrence, is also set in the Ozarks.
