Sunetra Sarker has shocked fans by leaving Casualty with no warning.

The actress – who has played Dr Zoe Hanna since 2007 – hung up her stethoscope in Saturday night’s instalment, with her alter ego leaving for a new job abroad.

Sunetra tweeted a thank you to fans, saying it had been “a privilege and a pleasure”.

The actress later took part in a Q and A with fans to mark the end of her run on the BBC medical drama.

When one asked if she would ever return, she replied: “Not for the foreseeable future. I’ve only just left.”

She was also quizzed about what she would miss most and replied: “The laughter on and off set. The make up chair gossip and the corridor banter. Oh and Derek Thompson;)x.”

The BBC has released a montage of some of Sunetra’s best bits to mark her exit.
