What is Trauma about?
Trauma takes a chance encounter between two men living very different lives and follows the fallout from a tragedy that introduces them to each other.
Jon Allerton, a father of one, is a high-flying surgeon in a hospital trauma unit, while Dan Bowker is a struggling factory manager and dad-of-three.
The two men’s worlds collide when Dan’s 15-year-old son Alex is stabbed and ends up on Jon’s operating table. But Jon is unable to save him and a devastated Dan decides that the surgeon was ultimately responsible for his son’s death.
As Dan’s life unravels, he also starts to pick Jon’s apart in his search for justice for his son. But are his concerns over his son’s care justified, or are they the result of his overpowering grief?
The fast-paced thriller looks at what it is that makes a person “good”, and what happens when the institutions that are supposed to protect us end up letting us down.
Who is starring in the series?
Doctor Foster writer Mike Bartlett penned the drama and said that he was thrilled with the cast: “I wrote Trauma knowing we needed, and hoping we'd get, hugely-talented actors for the roles. But this cast has exceeded expectations. I'm a huge fan of all of them individually and can't wait to see them on screen together.”
Adrian Lester, star of Hustle, Undercover and The Day After Tomorrow, plays surgeon Jon who is living a seemingly perfect life until the complaint over his patient’s death.
John Simm, who starred in Life on Mars, Prey and The Village, takes the role of bereaved father Dan who is desperate to make Jon accept responsibility for Alex’s death.
Surgeon Jon’s family is completed by Rowena King (Of Kings and Prophets) who plays his successful psychiatrist wife Lisa Allerton, and Jade Anouka is their daughter Alana.
Dan’s wife Susie is played by Lyndsey Marshal, whose previous roles include Rome and From Darkness.
