It’s that time of year again – Strictly Come Dancing’s celebrity cast for the coming series is being announced.
Find out more about one of the Glitterball Trophy contenders, Alex Scott.
Revealed as a Strictly contestant: Celebrity number 12 was announced as Alex during Ace’s BBC Radio 1Xtra show on August 6.
Occupation: Footballer and sports presenter
Best known for: Alex first became famous as one of the Lionesses on England’s women’s football team, and as the team captain for Arsenal who she first signed for aged just eight.
Since retiring, Alex has forged a successful broadcasting career as a football pundit for BBC Sport, including their World Cup coverage, as well as Sky Sports where she was the first ever female pundit on Super Sunday.
She said: “I am absolutely buzzing to be signed up to Strictly. It’s the show I’ve always wanted to do and I can’t believe I’m finally going to be part of it. I’m super excited, but also terrified at the same time…
“The football pitch is a bit less glam than the ballroom, but I’m ready to try the sequins and dresses! Bring it on!”
Strictly partner: Neil Jones
Memorable moments: She may have got off to a rocky start, but Alex improved massively throughout the competition and went on to reach the quarter-final.
Her Strictly season was full of drama as her dance partner Neil Jones injured his leg just 45 minutes before the Halloween live show, leaving her with a subbed-in Kevin Clifton who had no time to learn the routine.
Alex picked up major points for not only managing the dance without a hitch, but also shouting out instructions to pro Kevin as they performed, and fitted in seamlessly with her new partner for a second week, too.
Luckily, Neil recovered enough to make a return and the pair were very proud to eventually place fifth.
Placed: Alex was voted out in the quarter-final, becoming the 10th celebrity to leave the competition and placing fifth over all.
Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One on September 7.
