TV’s coldest celebrity contest is heading back to the ice after a successful revamp in 2018.
Dancing on Ice 2019 is go and Gemma Collins will be one of the celebrities hoping to skate her way to glory in the New Year.
Occupation: Reality TV star
Best known for: The GC first came to our attention as one of the most outspoken stars of The Only Way is Essex – and that’s saying something, with a cast that has included James 'Arg' Argent, Mark Wright and Lauren Goodger.
Never one to shy away from an argument, Gemma has become one of the best-known stars of the series that follows a glamorous group of friends in Essex. Her on-off relationship with one of those friends, Arg, is regular tabloid fodder (for the record, it's currently on).
Gemma has also branched out into other reality TV shows, including Celebrity Big Brother, Celebs Go Dating, and, notably, I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! which she quit after just 72 hours.
More recently, the star became infamous for an embarrassing incident when footage of her falling through a trapdoor whilst presenting on stage at the BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards went viral.
She said: “I am scared, I am nervous. I don’t know one, how they are going to lift me up and two, how fast I can move around that ice, but I really want to give it a go.”
“The training is going to be intense, but I hear you really shape up doing the show so I might come out with the dream body after all.”
Partner: Matt Evers
Most memorable moment: Gemma wasted no time in becoming the talking point of the series when she started a row with the judging panel's Mr Nasty Jason Gardiner live on air during her second critique.
The GC bellowed at the shocked judge "don't sell stories on me!" and shouted "boring" over the top of his comments, in reference to a tabloid interview he'd given earlier in the week which was less than complimentary about her fame and skating skills.
Jason denied that he'd sold any stories about her, but their relationship never quite recovered and she was accused of diva antics on the show by missing training and disappearing before the end of one episode.
She also had one of the nastiest falls we've seen on the ice, but redeemed herself by getting back on her feet with a smile on her face and finishing the routine.
Placed: Gemma eventually ended up in the skate-off in week six and lost out to cricketer Ryan Sidebottom. She placed eighth in the competition.
Dancing on Ice returns to ITV in January 2019.
