TV’s wintriest contest is heading back to the ice after a revamp in 2018.
Dancing on Ice is continuing its tradition of signing up a Coronation Street star, with Jane Danson - cobbles veteran Leanne Battersby - featuring in the 2019 competition.
Best known for: Jane Danson is one of ITV soap Coronation Street’s most recognisable stars, having enjoyed a long career on the cobbles which began in her teens.
She has played Leanne Battersby since 1997, taking just a few years off in the early 00s to appear on The Bill.
Leanne has had a turbulent time in Weatherfield, with her storylines including drug abuse, prostitution, and the discovery that her birth mother was someone entirely different to who she’d thought.
The character has been married three times to two men, has a son from a one-night stand with Steve McDonald, and battled ex Peter Barlow for custody of his own son, Simon.
In The Bill, Jane played the show’s first-ever lesbian police officer. She also had short stints in dramas The Grand, and Always and Everyone.
She is no stranger to celebrity contests, having taken part in Soapstar Superstar and Celebrity Stars in Their Eyes, in which she and a quartet of Corrie co-stars appeared as the Spice Girls.
Jane will have plenty of mates on hand with skating advice, as other Corrie stars to have taken to the ice have included Brooke Vincent, Antony Cotton, Samia Ghadie and Hayley Tamaddon.
She said: "I've got a big birthday coming up so I'm seeing it as a challenge for the fab 40. I'm just looking forward to it and trying not to think about being damaged. It's been a bit of a life long dream."
Partner: Sylvain Longchambon
Most memorable moment: Poor Jane had a tough time when she fainted on the ice during a dress rehearsal just hours before a live show.
But she still managed to get out on the ice and perform her routine, impressing viewers with her positive attitude.
Placed: Jane left the competition alongside Ryan Sidebottom in week seven's double elimination. The pair placed joint sixth.
Dancing on Ice returns to ITV in January 2019.
