We take a closer look at Antoni Porowski and his credentials for adding some spice in the kitchen.

What is Antoni Porowski’s role on Queer Eye?

He is the team’s go-to man when someone they’re working with is looking for easy but delicious ways to entertain a potential date.

What did he do before being cast in the show?

The food fanatic was born in Canada to Polish parents and has some impressive language skills – he grew up speaking Polish, English and French.

Antoni now lives in Brooklyn with his boyfriend, Joey Krietemeyer, and was working in the food industry before getting the Queer Eye call up.

He started out as a waiter whilst hoping to launch an acting career, but Antoni worked his way up to managing a sushi restaurant and eventually became personal chef to none other than Ted Allen – the original Queer Eye food expert.

What does Antoni say about the controversy over his cooking skills?

Some viewers have complained that Antoni’s recipes are a little too simple, but he says that he never claimed to be a chef.

He told NME: “I know my skill set, I never pretended to be a professional chef, I have a respect for them, but I’d never consider myself one, they’re my rockstars.

“But I am someone for who food has been a constant in my life, and it’s been a passion, it’s something that I’ve constantly studied, and I’m constantly trying to better my craft, and that’s good enough for me. And I know the people who eat my food really enjoy it, and those are the people who matter at the end of the day.”

Queer Eye season 2 will return to Netflix on Friday, June 15.
