Who is Will Bayley? Meet the Strictly Come Dancing 2019 contestant and Paralympian

The class of 2019 is being revealed – find out more about one of this year’s amateur dancers.

It’s that time of year again – Strictly Come Dancing’s celebrity cast for the coming series is being announced.

Find out more about one of the Glitterball Trophy contenders, Will Bayley.

RULED OUT WITH INJURY

Sadly, Will and Janette have announced that they won't be returning to the competition after Will's knee injury stopped him from dancing in week six.

The pair didn't take part in the Halloween show as Will had landed awkwardly during training, leaving him with a bad knee injury that meant he couldn't perform his routine.

Although they got a bye to week seven, the pair had to accept that Will's knee would not recover in time to continue with the competition, devastating news as they had been improving every week.

Revealed as a Strictly contestant: Will was our celebrity contestant number 10, announced for Strictly 2019 on TalkRadio on August 5.

Age: 31

Occupation: Paralympic table tennis player

Best known for: Table tennis champ Will has represented his country at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympics, and is currently in training for Tokyo 2020.

He has had arthrogryposis since birth, a rare condition which affects all four of his limbs, and is classified as a Class 7 Paralympic athlete.

Will was awarded an MBE for his services to table tennis in 2017.

He said: “I’m so proud to be on the show, it’s my family’s favourite show. I have no dance experience at all, but I hope I can do well. I want to inspire people with a disability - that would mean a lot to me. I want to prove to people I can do this.”

Placed: Will and Janette were forced to leave the competition before week seven aired, after getting a bye in week six which they missed due to injury.

The table tennis champ had landed awkwardly on his leg during training and his knee injury was so bad that they eventually had no choice but to leave the show.

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One on September 7.
