You may recognise them from the big screen, the world of pop music or major US TV dramas, but these nine stars all started out in the suburban idyll that is Ramsay Street. Find out who they played and what they did after they left Erinsborough...
She’s a leading Hollywood actress and one of the most beautiful women in the world, but Margot Robbie’s dazzling career all began on Neighbours back in June 2008 as Donna Freedman. We last saw her on Ramsay Street on January 26, 2011, after which the actress left Australia for a new Hollywood career.
Her breakthrough role was as a flight attendant opposite Christina Ricci on television series Pan Am, but it was cancelled just after one season. She then starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street in 2014, and has been an A-list regular ever since.
Natalie achieved international stardom with her 1997 hit song ‘Torn’ but achieved initial fame as Beth Brenna on Neighbours between 1992 and 1994. To date Natalie has sold 10 million records worldwide and has appeared in several movies including 2003’s Johnny English. She has also served as a judge on The X Factor Australia.
Alan Dale is a New Zealand actor whose storied acting career spans almost 40 years. You might recognise him as Caleb Nichol in The O.C., as John Ellis in Entourage or as publishing magnate Bradford Meade in Ugly Betty. But he's best remembered for playing Jim Robinson in Neighbours from 1985 to 1993: he was in Neighbours very first episode and as father to local businessman Paul and Jason Donovan's Scott, is remembered as one of the show’s most influential characters.
Long before his Hollywood breakthrough and on/off relationship with Miley Cyrus, Liam played paraplegic teen Josh Taylor on Neighbours. Playing Josh between 2007 and 2008, his character became embroiled in a love triangle between Bridget Parker and Declan Napier. Liam’s big Hollywood roles include starring alongside Jennifer Lawrence in the Hunger Games movies and Independence Day: Resurgence.
Five years before Liam made his Neighbours debut, his brother Chris appeared in one Neighbours episode. While he may have only played a miniscule role on the Aussie soap, he had a reoccurring part on rival Aussie soap Home and Away as Kim Hyde between 2004 and 2007. He has since achieved megastardom by starring as Thor in the movie franchise of the same name.
Russell Crowe was on Neighbours for four episodes an ex-con and general bad boy Kenny Larkin in 1987. The New Zealand star made it big in 2000's sword and sandals epic Gladiator, and has enjoyed somewhat of a career comeback in recent years with appearances in the hit movies The Mummy, The Nice Guys and Noah.
Jesse played Billy Kennedy on Neighbours from 1994 to 2000 and then made a comeback appearance in 2005. The Aussie actor has since had a successful television career in the States, playing Dr. Robert Chase on the Hugh Laurie medical drama phenomenon House between 2004 and 2012 and now as Lieutenant Matthew Casey on Chicago Fire from 2012 to present.
Kylie got her first big break on Neighbours back in 1986 as Charlene Mitchell, a teenage mechanic whose marriage to Scott Robinson (played by Jason Donovan) in 1987 attracted an incredible 20 million viewers in the UK alone. Kylie’s went on to have her incredibly successful pop career, and has even in dabbled in the movies, with big screen roles including Street Fighter, Moulin Rouge! and San Andreas.
Guy started out on Neighbours in 1986 as Mike Young, a troubled teen who found a family, friendship and love in Erinsborough. Guy would go on to star in several additional Neighbours shows, including fellow soap opera Home & Away, before finally achieving stardom in Hollywood. Pearce has appeared in major movies such as L.A. Confidential, Memento, The Hurt Locker, The King’s Speech and Iron Man 3.
