Ever watched a Bear Grylls show from the comfort of your sofa and convinced yourself that you could make better survival decisions than him?
Well, now you can test out that theory with interactive Netflix series You vs Wild…
When is You vs Wild on TV?
The new interactive series began streaming on Netflix on Wednesday, April 10.
What is it about?
If you’re old enough to remember the children’s choose-your-own-adventure books, then this is the series for you.
We’ve all watched a Bear Grylls survival show and felt we’ve picked up a fair few tips on how to manage in a tight spot – but you can find out just how much of it your brain has really absorbed in You vs Wild.
The interactive series sees Bear dropped into a range of nightmare scenarios with a stark choice of what to do next.
But this time, the quick thinking is down to the viewer as you will have to choose his every move - and a wrong step could end in disaster.
From dense jungles to towering mountains, and brutal deserts to snow-covered landscapes, what Bear eats, encounters and experiences is all down to you, and you won’t even have to own a pair of waterproofs to live the adventure.
You vs Wild is a family-friendly show, so kids will love taking the Chief Scout on an exciting trek through a far-flung location.
Confronted by predatory animals, harsh conditions and disgusting meal options, Bear takes on the terrors of the wild while you sit back and enjoy the view from your cosy living room.
Who is Bear Grylls?
If you don’t know Bear Grylls, you must have been living under a rock… much like the man himself.
He’s a former SAS serviceman and a survival instructor who, since his military career ended, has become globally famous for his TV adventure shows.
Man vs Wild saw Bear take on some of the most stomach-churning feats ever seen on TV, including running through a forest fire, using a sheep corpse as a sleeping bag, and drinking water from a camel carcass as he attempted to survive alone in some of the toughest landscapes on Earth.
It made him a huge star and he has since gone on to front shows including The Island - in which a group of contestants have to live on a desert island using basic survival skills - a celebrity spin-off of the same show, a children’s survival series, and a documentary series Escape from Hell which explored real-life survival tales.
His UK celebrity series Bear’s Wild Weekend saw him take adventure novices on a two-day, one-on-one trip. His companions included Jonathan Ross, Miranda Hart and Stephen Fry.
Bear also worked on a US version, Running Wild with Bear Grylls, in which his adventure partners included Barack Obama, Ben Stiller, Channing Tatum, Kate Winslet, and Kate Hudson.
The Scout Association named Bear as Chief Scout in 2009, and his position in the top role has seen a huge boost in numbers of children signing up to scouting groups.
