Who is Amy Dowden, Strictly Come Dancing pro?

This series is Amy Dowden’s third stint on the Strictly dancefloor. Here’s what you need to know about her.

Amy Dowden joined Strictly Come Dancing in 2017 and has been quietly moving up the leaderboards, with 2019's series looking likely to be her most successful yet.

Who is Amy Dowden?

Caerphilly-born Amy Dowden has been dancing since the age of eight and said joining Strictly was a dream come true. As a British National Champion, Amy is one of the highest-ranking Ballroom and Latin American professional dancers in the UK. In 2015 she reached the semi-final of the World Championship.

Amy usually dances professionally with partner Ben Jones from their base in Wolverhampton. Amy told International Dance Shoes that after a big competition she likes to go back to see her family in Wales for a bit. When they are not competing, Amy and Ben teach dance and Zumba classes around the Midlands.

Away from dance, Amy likes to relax by swimming, and she has opened up about suffering from Crohn's disease and the effect it has on her career.

Her scores have been steadily improving over her three seasons on the show, and 2019 looks like it could be her year with a talented celebrity partner.

Favourite dance: Rumba.

Best-ever finish: In 2018, Amy finished in ninth place with Danny John-Jules.

Worst-ever finish: Amy’s first series in 2017 ended in 12th place with Brian Conley.
