Who is Danny John-Jules? Meet the Strictly Come Dancing 2018 contestant and Red Dwarf star

The Cat is getting sequinned up for the ballroom dancing contest.

Strictly Come Dancing is back! The BBC has revealed that Danny John-Jules will be stepping out on the dancefloor this year – we get to know him a little better.

Revealed as a Strictly contestant: Danny John-Jules was confirmed as the first male celebrity in Strictly 2018’s line-up on The One Show on Monday, August 13.

Occupation: Actor


Best known for: Danny’s most memorable role is as Cat on the sitcom Red Dwarf, where he also plays his character’s nerdy alter ego Duane Dibbley.


He will also be recognisable to viewers as Death in Paradise policeman Dwayne Myers.

Danny has previously appeared in Maid Marian and her Merry Men, The Tomorrow People, and CBBC series M.I. High.

He has previously danced in 2017’s The Real Full Monty, in a scene in The Great Muppet Caper, and in a Wham! video.

He said: "Having spent the last few months on two wheels motorcycling around South America in pink leathers, I’m absolutely delighted to be getting back on two feet and into something more comfortable like glittery spandex."
