Strictly Come Dancing is back! The BBC has revealed that Kate Silverton will be stepping out on the dancefloor this year – get to know her a little better.

Revealed as a Strictly contestant: Kate Silverton was confirmed as a contestant on The One Show on Friday, August 17 after being heavily tipped to be taking part.

Age: 48

Occupation: Newsreader

Best known for: Kate is a regular face on the BBC news team, having anchored bulletins and reported from around the globe.

She was one of the co-anchors on BBC News 24 and filled in for newsreaders on BBC Breakfast before joining the BBC News at One.

Kate has appeared on all of the broadcaster’s main TV news programmes and also spent time working for BBC Radio 4.

She has also taken part in BBC series and documentaries covering the armed forces, nature, public speaking and insomnia.

A mum-of-two Kate has spoken many times about her struggle to have a family. She went through failed rounds of IVF before conceiving her children naturally in her 40s.

She said: “I’m excited to confirm that I will be swapping the newsroom for the ballroom and joining this year’s wonderful Strictly family.

“It’s something of a departure for a news journalist, shifting focus from the headlines to my hemlines and I suspect the only serious element of my life over the coming months will be in training hard and figuring out the foxtrot… but I am so looking forward to the fun, laughter and all the challenges ahead.”
