Strictly Come Dancing is back! The BBC has revealed that Lauren Steadman will be stepping out on the dancefloor this year – get to know her a little better.
Revealed as a Strictly contestant: Lauren Steadman was announced as the 13th Strictly contestant during The One Show on Monday, August 20.
Occupation: Paralympic athlete
Best known for: Lauren is a hugely successful athlete who has competed at the Beijing, London and Rio Paralympics.
She began competing as a swimmer, but after the London games changed her sport to triathlon and won a silver medal in Rio.
Lauren is a six-time European Champion and has been named World Champion in the Paratriathlon twice.
Just a week before Strictly begins, she will be hoping to defend her World Championship title on Australia’s Gold Coast.
The athlete was born with her lower right arm missing, but told The One Show that she was not planning on using a prosthetic limb for Strictly as she doesn’t usually for sport.
She said: “I still don’t think it has properly sunk in that I’m actually going to be part of this year’s Strictly! I have loved the show since I was young and it’s a huge thing to tick off my bucket list.
“I’m more nervous about being on stage, performing live and in front of the judges than I am about the Elite Paratriathlon Grand Final next month! But I’m up for the challenge and excited to swap my triathlon kit for dancing shoes and sequins.”
