Strictly Come Dancing is back! The BBC has revealed that Lauren Steadman will be stepping out on the dancefloor this year – get to know her a little better.
Revealed as a Strictly contestant: Lauren Steadman was announced as the 13th Strictly contestant during The One Show on Monday, August 20.
Occupation: Paralympic athlete
Best known for: Lauren is a hugely successful athlete who has competed at the Beijing, London and Rio Paralympics.
She began competing as a swimmer, but after the London games changed her sport to triathlon and won a silver medal in Rio.
Lauren is a six-time European Champion and has been named World Champion in the Paratriathlon three times.
Just a week before Strictly began, she defend her World Championship title on Australia’s Gold Coast and came away with the gold medal for a third time.
The athlete was born with her lower right arm missing, but told The One Show that she was not planning on using a prosthetic limb for Strictly as she doesn’t usually for sport.
“I’m more nervous about being on stage, performing live and in front of the judges than I am about the Elite Paratriathlon Grand Final next month! But I’m up for the challenge and excited to swap my triathlon kit for dancing shoes and sequins.”
