He’s a 39-year-old British actor who’s appeared in many major films, TV shows and West End plays. Now the star of wacky yet gripping drama Preacher, his star power continues to grow.

1. He sings

A man of many talents, Dominic not afraid to flex his singing muscles on camera. This was most obvious when he appeared in megahit Abba musical Mamma Mia! as the groom, Sky. He sang in several of the film’s numbers, including Lay All Your Love on Me with on-screen bride Amanda Seyfried. As for how good he is at singing, we leave that up to you to judge!

2. He’s been linked to a few stars

On set of Mamma Mia! it became a case of life imitating art, as Dominic and Amanda became real-life lovers and dated between 2008-2010. Once they broke up he began dating actress Ruth Negia, and they’re still together now. They’ve appeared on stage together for the National Theatre’s production of Phedre and in even in Preacher itself.

3. He’s appeared in a few vampire movies

Dominic may be in danger of being typecast after appearing in two vampire movies. He starred in the 2012 movie Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter as Henry Sturges, Abraham Lincoln’s vampire-hunting mentor who, ironically, is a vampire himself. He then appeared Dracula Untold in 2014 as Sultan Mehmed II, a wealthy yet evil leader who is Vlad III’s sworn enemy.

4. He used to live with James Corden

James and Dominic go way back: not only did they star in Alan Bennett play The History on Broadway, in the West End and in the 2006 Nicholas Hytner movie, but they also shared a flat until Corden decided to start a family with his now wife Julia Carey. In fact, it was Cooper who introduced Corden to his wife and he is the godfather of their first child, Max.

5. He played Uday’s Hussein’s double

Dominic played Uday Hussein and his body double in 2011’s The Devil’s Double. Chronicling the disturbed life of Sadaam Hussein’s unstable son, the film tells the tale of how Uday plucked an Iraqi boy out of poverty and turned him into his body double. At first the doppelganger is enamoured with his playboy lifestyle, but quickly becomes disenchanted and eventually rebels against him – with potentially deadly consequences.

6. His great-grandfather was a pioneering film enthusiast

Dominic has film in his blood as he is the great-grandson of pioneering film enthusiast E.T. Heron who established and published The Kinematograph Weekly – the first known trade newspaper for the British Film Industry. The publication ran from 1889 to 1971 and is now considered an invaluable source for film historians.

7. He opposed Scottish independence

Cooper was one of 200 influential figures to sign a letter to The Guardian that opposed Scottish Independence in the lead-up to September 2014’s Scottish Referendum.

8. He still treads the boards

Dominic is still true to his theatrical roots and continues to appear in major theatrical productions. Having trained at LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) and aside from starring in several productions of The History Boys, he’s also appeared in 2003/04’s His Dark Materials, 2009’s Phedre and 2016’s The Libertine.

9. He’s part of the Marvel Universe

Dominic officially entered the Marvel Universe in when he played Howard Stark in Captain America: The First Avenger in 2011. He reprised the role in Agent Carter in 2013 and then again in the television series Agent Carter in both 2015 and 2016.

10. He plays a priest with special powers

Now the lead star of AMC’s wild yet highly praised Preacher, he plays priest Jesse Custer. Preacher is based on the DC Comics series of the same name and Jesse has regularly been ranked in lists of top comic book characters.

In Preacher, Jesse’s life as a Texan Priest is pretty humdrum until he fuses with Genesis and receives some of his powers. This includes having the power to make people to do his will through the Word of God. Confused? It is a bit tricky, but once you get into it it’s an incredibly engaging and indeed intriguing ride of a show.
