Autumn is well and truly here, and we’ve got a whole heap of TV shows for you to watch.

We’ve gone mad for the red planet, with two new shows about Mars, there's the final series of House of Cards and a right royal reality show.

Midnight, Texas season 2

Midnight Texas

When is it on?

Midnight, Texas returns on Thursday, November 1 at 9pm on SyFy (BT channel number 319/375 HD).

What’s it about?

Based on books by Charlaine Harris, Midnight is a mysterious haven for anyone and everyone looking to hide from the outside world, including vampires, witches, werewolves and psychics.

Why watch it?

Midnight, Texas is described as Twin Peaks meets True Blood - and it's no wonder: Charlaine Harris also wrote the Southern Vampire Mysteries series which were adapted into True Blood.

The First

The First

When is it on?

The First starts Thursday, November 1 at 9pm on Channel 4. Catch up on the All4 app on the Players & Apps tab on BT TV.

What’s it about?

Sean Penn leads an ensemble cast in this near-future drama about a crew of astronauts attempting to become the first humans on Mars. The crew contends with peril and personal sacrifice as they undertake the greatest pioneering feat in human history.

Why watch it?

The series comes from Beau Willimon - the creator and executive producer of Netflix’s House of Cards.

Homecoming season 1

Homecoming

When is it on?

Homecoming will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, November 2.

What’s it about?

Based on the acclaimed fictional podcast series of the same name by Gimlet Media, Homecoming is a mind-bending psychological thriller.

Heidi Bergman (Julia Roberts) is a caseworker at Homecoming, a facility to help soldiers transition to civilian life in the US.

Years later, she’s started a new life, living with her mother and working as a waitress, when a Department of Defense auditor questions why she left the Homecoming facility. Heidi quickly realises that there's a whole other story behind the tale she's been telling herself.

Why watch it?

Homecoming marks Julia Roberts’ return to a long-running TV series after a 40-year career in Hollywood movies which has included Pretty Woman, Erin Brockovich and My Best Friend’s Wedding.

House of Cards season 6

House of Cards 6

When is it on?

All eight episodes of House of Cards season 6 will be available to stream on Netflix on Friday, November 2.

What’s it about?

Spoiler alert: Following the death of Frank Underwood, Robin Wright returns as President of the United States in the sixth season of the award-winning political drama.

Why watch it?

After Kevin Spacey was sacked from the Netflix show over sexual misconduct allegations, which he denies, the series came "very, very close" to being cancelled. Instead, his character was killed off and producers decided that this would be the final season. How will the series - which has won countless awards including Emmys and Golden Globes - come to an end?

When is it on?

Saluting Dad’s Army starts Tuesday, November 6 at 8pm on Gold (BT channel number 310).

What’s it about?

Saluting Dad’s Army celebrates the genius of the enduring classic sitcom and pays tribute to the people who created it. Presented by Alexander Armstrong (Pointless), the series covers the colourful history of Dad’s Army from the writers' very first conversation through to its success and enduring legacy.

Why watch it?

The series coincides with the 50th anniversary of the much-loved show, and - through archive footage and newly captured interviews - offers a true insight into how Dad's Army became not just a hit, but an institution.

The Royal World

The Royal World

When is it on?

The Royal World starts Wednesday, November 7 at 9pm on MTV (BT channel 309/371 HD).

What’s it about?

MTV invited a group of royals and aristocrats to live together in the English countryside and filmed their every move in an attempt to find out what it is really like to be young and royal. How will they cope when a baroness, a lady and a couple of self-proclaimed counts leave their domestic comforts behind and attend some of the most high-profile events of the season?

Why watch it?

The show features Tyler Dooley (Meghan Markle’s half-nephew) and Misha and Dima Campbell - better known as I’m A Celebrity... star Lady Colin Campbell’s two adopted sons.

The Sinner season 2

The Sinner

When is it on?

The Sinner returns to Netflix on Friday, November 9.

What’s it about?

In season 1, a young mother inexplicably stabs a stranger to death, and a sympathetic detective struggles to unlock the mystery buried in her missing memories. In season 2, the investigation pulls him into the hidden darkness of his hometown.

Why watch it?

Jessica Biel - who was nominated for an Emmy and Golden Globe for her performance on the show in season 1 - continues to serve as executive producer for season 2.

Mars season 2

Mars

When is it on?

Mars returns Sunday, November 11 at 9pm on National Geographic (BT channel number 317/373 HD).

What’s it about?

A documentary/drama hybrid, season 1 saw the first manned mission from Earth to Mars in 2033, in an attempt to colonise the planet.

Season 2 jumps ahead to 2042 after the astronauts have built a colony, examining the impact that humans have on Mars - and the consequences the planet has on us.

Why watch it?

Mars is rooted in fact, and each dramatic scene is interspersed with a Big Thinker - an expert on the subject revealing what life would actually be like on the red planet.

Narcos: Mexico

Narcos Mexico

When is it on?

All 10 episodes of Narcos: Mexico will be available to stream on Netflix on Friday, November 16.

What’s it about?

Narcos: Mexico will explore the origins of the modern drug war by going back to its roots, beginning at a time when the Mexican trafficking world was a loose and disorganised confederation of independent growers and dealers.

Why watch it?

It features an entirely new cast and separate storyline from the original Narcos series - which is centered on the illegal drug trade in Colombia - so you can get stuck in without having to catch up on the first three seasons.

Inside North Korea’s Dynasty

Inside North Korea

When is it on?

North Korea’s Dynasty starts Sunday, November 18 at 9pm on National Geographic (BT channel number 317/373 HD).

What’s it about?

A year in the making, this four-part documentary series focuses on the ruling Kim family, which has controlled the East Asian state for three generations.

Why watch it?

The notoriously secretive country is a mystery to those outside of it, but the show will look at the state’s complex ruling family dynamics and its dark and surreal history, using secret audio recordings from inside North Korea, as well as firsthand testimony and archive footage.
