Knightfall, History channel’s hit medieval drama series, returns for a second season this summer with Star Wars legend Mark Hamill joining the cast.
The new season will be "darker and grittier" as it explores further the tale of the Knights Templar.
Tom Cullen returns to the series as Landry du Lauzon, the disgraced Templar knight, who must restablish his name and come back to save the Templar.
Hamill, best known for his role as Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise, will play new character Talus, a "battle-hardened Knight Templar veteran and initiate master".
Talus is tasked with resurrecting the shamed Landry and saving the Templars.

The second season premieres on History channel on Tuesday, July 2nd at 9pm.
What is happening in series 2?
The new season starts with the king of France (Ed Stoppard) and his army of unimaginable power in preparation to take down the Knights Templar forever.
With the historical and ruthless downfall of the Templar Order on the horizon, season two focuses on themes such as power, redemption, revenge, betrayal, family, and ultimately an epic war between church and state.
New cast for series 2
In addition to Mark Hamill, new cast members in season two include:
Clementine Nicholson (Underworld: Blood Wars) as Margaret, Princess of Burgundy and the devoted wife of Prince Louis of France.
Genevieve Gaunt (The Royals) as Princess Isabella, the daughter of King Philip who history would eventually call "the she-wolf of France".
Tom Forbes (The Bastard Executioner, the Royals) as Prince Louis, the violent and unpredictable son of King Philip and heir to the throne.

Tom Cullen – Landry
Playing the noble courageous and headstrong Templar Knight who serves as a driving force behind the Templar’s quest for the Holy Grail, Tom Cullen is known for his roles in Downton Abbey (2010), Weekend (2011) and Black Mirror (2011).
Mark Hamill – Talus
Joining the cast as a battle-hardened veteran of the Crusades, Mark Hamill is one of Hollywood’s most revered actors who first appeared as ‘Luke Skywalker’ in George Lucas’ original Star Wars trilogy (1977 – 1983), and continued his role as Skywalker in the most recent Star Wars trilogy appearing in Star Wars: Episode IX to be released later this year. Mark is also the voice of The Joker in the Batman animated series and will be the voice of “Chucky” in Child’s Play (2019).
Other credits include, Corvette Summer (1978), Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001), and Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014). Hamill also directed the cult mockumentary Comic Book: The Movie.
Padraic Delaney – Gawain
Cast as the greatest swordsman of the Templar Order, known as Gawain, Padraic Delaney is also known for his roles in The Wind That Shakes The Barley (2006), The Tudors (2008), and Blackthorn (2011).
Simon Merrells – Tancrede
Simon Merrells has been on stage with prestigious organisations such as the National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company. As Tancrede, a steadfast, brave and resolute knight who respects his Templar vows above all else, he imagines himself as the heir apparent to Godfrey, the Master of the order..
Clementine Nicholson – Margaret
Margaret, Princess of Burgundy the devoted wife of Prince Louis of France, Nicholson is known for her appearances in Underworld: Blood Wars (2016), Around Robin and The Secret (2018).
Jim Carter – Pope Boniface VIII
Having played roles in Downton Abbey (2010) and Shakespeare in Love (2002), Carter plays Pope Boniface VIII, a stabilizing, incorruptible force within a corrupt medieval world.
Ed Stoppard – King Philip IV of France
Known for his roles in ‘The Pianist’ (2002), and The Crown (2016), Stoppard’s role as Philip sees his struggle being both King and husband, trying to control his family whilst transforming France into the greatest power in Europe.
Julian Ovenden – Willliam de Nogaret
Now playing the King’s ‘godless’ right-hand man, de Ovendon has been known for his previous roles in Smash (2012) and Downton Abbey (2010).
Tom Forbes – Prince Louis
Cast as the violent and unpredictable son of King Philip, Forbes is best known for his previous roles in A Young Doctor's Notebook & Other Stories (2012), The Bastard Executioner (2015) and The Royals (2015).
Genevieve Gaunt – Princess Isabella
Playing the daughter of King Philip Gaunt, Gaunt is known for her roles in The Last Dragonslayer (2016) and Dusty and Me (2016).
Sam Hazeldine – Godfrey
Hazeldine is best known for his roles in The Raven (2012), and The Huntsman: Winter’s War (2016). Hazeldine plays Godfrey, the Master of the Templars, who conceals many secrets surrounding the Holy Grail, with his one priority to protect it at all costs.

Episode 1: God's Executioners – Tuesday, July 2nd at 9pm
Banished from the Knights Templar after the discovery of his affair with Queen Joan, Landry must work to redeem himself under the watchful eye of a mysterious veteran of the Crusades. King Philip formulates a plan to take action against the Templars, while dealing with the return of his erratic eldest son, Prince Louis.
