From anarchic campus comedy Fresh Meat to romantic tearjerker One Day, we round up the best university-set films and TV shows to watch now on BT TV.

What’s it about?

From the makers of Peep Show, Fresh Meat is a UK dramedy that follows a group of six students about to embark on the most exciting period of their lives so far - university.

Featuring a diverse cast of British acting talent, comedian Jack Whitehall is snooty J.P., Joe Thomas (best known for playing Simon in The Inbetweeners) is awkward amateur musician Kingsley, while Charlotte Ritchie (Nurse Barbara Gilbert in Call The Midwife) is swot Oregon.

One to get you excited about all the different kinds of people you will meet at uni - but hopefully not socially awkward mature student Howard...

What’s it about?

This satirical American sitcom sees smug lawyer Jeff Winger (comedian Joel McHale) sent to a quirky community college packed with oddballs after his law degree is discovered to be duff.

The show developed a cult following for its ambitious storylines, pop culture references and its ensemble cast, including Chevy Chase and Alison Brie. Since it finished in 2015, it’s featured on lists of the best TV shows of all time, and the series three episode Remedial Chaos Theory beat an episode of The Simpsons to be named Best Sitcom Episode of All Time by Vulture.

One for when you’ve finished a day of lectures and need something to wind down with!

How To Get Away With Murder

What’s it about?

Criminal defense attorney and law professor Annalise Keating (Viola Davis, The Help), plus five of her students at a prestigious Philadelphia university, become involved in a twisted murder case.

A creation from Shona Rhimes’ Shonaland production company, lead actress Davis has received critical acclaim for her portrayal of law professor Keating, winning Emmy and SAG awards, and earning two Golden Globe nominations.

If you’re thinking of studying Law or Psychology at university, this series is for you - but even if you're not, it’s still a damn good show.

What’s it about?

Taking it back to the UK, One Day stars Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess as two friends who share a brief romance at the University of Edinburgh, but decide to pursue separate lives. Based on the novel of the same name by David Nicholls, the pair meet on the same day each year to compare their progress in life and love.

If there’s any movie that will make you dream of finding a university romance, this is it… but bring the tissues if you’re planning to watch it with your new flatmates.

What’s it about?

Beverly Hills sorority queen Elle (Reese Witherspoon) is shocked when her boyfriend Warner (Matthew Davis) takes her out for a meal and then dumps her, saying that because he’s about to attend Harvard Law School, he should start dating a more serious-minded woman.

So (spoiler alert), Elle enrols there too. If there’s any film that’ll make you wish you went to university in the US, it’ll be this iconic movie. There's also the Washington-based sequel, and Reese Witherspoon recently confirmed that a third film is in the works for a 2020 release, so there’s plenty of time for you to catch up in between studies.

What’s it about?

Another David Nicholls adaptation, Starter For 10 sees working-class student Brian Jackson (a young James McAvoy) navigate his first year at Bristol University - and win a place on its University Challenge quiz team.

Filmed in 2006 but set in 1985, you’ll spot an array of young but famous faces including Alice Eve, Dominic Cooper, James Corden, Catherine Tate and Benedict Cumberbatch, as well as Mark Gatiss, who puts in an uncannily precise turn as the quiz show's original host, Bamber Gascoigne.

It’ll make you wish you went to uni in the ‘80s!

What’s it about?

Jesse Eisenberg stars as Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in this Oscar-winning biographical drama, directed by David Fincher (House of Cards). It tells the story of how Zuckerberg created the social networking site while studying at Harvard - but is later sued by two brothers who claimed he stole their idea, and by the site's co-founder Eduardo Saverin (played by Andrew Garfield) who was later squeezed out of the business.

If you want a completely different portrayal of Harvard life from the one portrayed in Legally Blonde, this is one to watch.

What’s it about?

Twilight's Anna Kendrick stars alongside Rebel Wilson and Brittany Snow in this female-driven comedy about the fictional Barden University's all-girl a cappella group, the Barden Bellas, as they compete to win a national a cappella championship.

Full of hilarious jokes, witty one-liners and awesome music, Pitch Perfect is the ultimate feel-good comedy - and one to make you wish your university had an a capella group!
