It’s not every day you get to go to the top of the BT Tower. And it’s certainly not every day you get to do so as a zombie.

In honour of Fear the Walking Dead series 3, I was one of five journalists invited to participate in a zombie experience at the BT Tower.

On arrival a team of actors, already transformed into scarily realistic zombies, gave us some tips on how to do our best zombie noises.

We also ate breakfast with this small army of the undead, and I must admit chatting to a group of zombies over pastries and coffee is not something I will soon forget.

Then the fun began: we put our acting hats on and were filmed as we were taken up to the 34th floor, once the famous revolving restaurant which offers spectacular views over London.

But before we could stop to admire the vista, we had been ‘bitten’ and ‘infected’ by a group of starving zombies, clearly with a taste for journalists.

The first stage of our zombification was the make-up. Each of us were assigned at least one make-up artist who had worked on various zombie movies and televisions shows in the past.

The process took almost an hour and a half, and my finished look came complete with a gory open wound and a multitude of blood and dirt stains.

The final part of our transformation was to learn how to move and act like a zombie. Our movement coach taught us that zombies move in a loose and uncoordinated way, and tend to move and mimic one another in a pack mentality.

Then it was time to join the zombie herd taking over the BT Tower – both outside at the very top and back at the 34th floor.

Filmed as we staggered our way across the rooftop, grasping as at a hovering helicopter in the hope of feasting on the pilot – it was great fun to get into character and become truly ‘zombified’.

All in all I’d say we made pretty convincing zombies. Just take a look at the finished result:
