Live news and social media reaction

  • Dermot O'Leary gets 'delayed' on the way to the O2 due to his Bodyguard Richard Madden - which means I'm a Celebrity's John Barrowman opens the show with a song-and-dance number
  • Paul O'Grady wins the first award of the night for his For the Love of Dogs series
  • Bodyguard picks up its first award of the night for New Drama, beating Killing Eve, The Cry and Girlfriends. Although some viewers were disappointed that the series 2 announcement still hasn't come.
  • This Morning wins the Daytime gong again. They've won an accolade every year since 2010. Good Morning Britain's Piers Morgan does not look happy.

  • David Walliams wins his third Best Judge NTA, giving him serious bragging rights over his co-star Simon Cowell. Will we ever hear the end of it?

  • Don't believe everything you read in The Sun newspaper. Peter Kay is not at the NTAs tonight, but Car Share does win its third NTA. Sian Gibson collects the gong ("I'm still excited from Westlife") and says she'll take it round to Peter's tomorrow.
  • It's a double victory for Bodyguard and Richard Madden. He beats Jodie Comer and Michelle Keegan to the Drama Performance title and gets handed the title by Hollywood legend Danny DeVito.
  • Not everyone is happy at Bodyguard sweeping the board. Jodie Comer is trending on Twitter and fans of Killing Eve are despairing at her missing out at yet another awards ceremony.

  • Holly Willoughby, Harry, Fleur and the I'm a Celebrity gang flood the stage as the jungle wins the Bruce Forsyth Award.
  • Huge cheers for Danny Dyer who wins the Serial Drama Performance gong. He dedicates his award to Harold Pinter and offers words of advice to "kids living poverty", telling them to follow their dreams. "Curb your ego, nourish your soul, goodnight," he concludes.

  • David Dimbleby gets a standing ovation as he wins the Special Recognition Award. The former Question Time presenter laughs at the "history of hair" in the promo video created to look back at his career. He also pays tribute to the BBC, "one of the great national institutions" and urges us to protect it.

  • Ant and Dec have done it again. They might not have been on TV together since March and Ant has a drunk driving conviction, but they've made it 18 years on the trot. Can anyone stop them making it to 19?

  • Ant is close to tears accepting his award and dedicates the win to Dec.

  • Victories for Strictly Come Dancing and a second win on the bounce for Emmerdale round-off the evening.

Who are the presenters?

Dermot O'Leary is presenting for his 10th National Television Awards. He replaced Sir Trevor McDonald in 2010. The first ever presenter in 1995 was Eamonn Holmes.

Dermot is joined this year by Love Island winners Jack Fincham and Dani Dyer, who are presenters on the red carpet and backstage gossip.

The reality TV duo are hosting coverage on the NTAs website and social media channels, interviewing celebrity guests and nominees.

NTAs News

National TV Award

Ant and Dec will not be attending this year's ceremony as they are busy filming the new series of Britain's Got Talent. The duo are controversially nominated for Best Presenter, despite Ant being out of action for much of last year following his arrest for drunk driving.

If the pair still manage to win, it will be their 18th victory in a row in that category and will come despite Ant only presenting parts of BGT and Saturday Night Takeaway, before having to pull out of both show's finales.

> Dermot O'Leary - We may as well chuck in the towel if Ant and Dec win

Host Dermot O'Leary has tipped Bodyguard star Richard Madden for a successful evening. The former Game of Thrones actor is nominated for Drama Performance and Bodyguard is nominated for New Drama.

> Richard Madden has great chance of NTAs win says Dermot O'Leary

The battle for the Serial Drama award is always highly competitive and Emmerdale will be aiming to upset the odds for a second year in a row and win again.

Coronation Street and EastEnders will be hoping they can reclaim top spot, while Hollyoaks' loyal fanbase will have been voting in considerable numbers to cause a big shock.

> Battle of the Soaps - Emmerdale could repeat its success

Is Peter Kay going to make his comeback at the NTAs? The British comedy legend and Car Share creator has been away from the limelight since 2017 when he cancelled his UK and Ireland tour for "unforseeen family circumstances".

The final episodes of Car Share are nominated for an NTA and Virgin Radio DJ Chris Evans has sparked speculation that Kay will appear at the O2 Arena with co-star Sian Gibson,

"Peter Kay! I know him, I don’t know him well, he’s not a mate, but I know him," Evans told his listeners. "I know he’s been getting better and he’s coming back and he may well be back on telly tonight. Back for the NTAs."
