It’s that time of year again – Strictly Come Dancing’s celebrity cast for the coming series is being announced.
Find out more about one of the Glitterball Trophy contenders, Anneka Rice.
Revealed as a Strictly contestant: Anneka was the 15th and final contestant to be announced for Strictly 2019, on Steve Wright's BBC Radio 2 show on August 7.
Occupation: TV and radio broadcaster
Best known for: Back in the 90s, Anneka was beloved by viewers as the Sky-Runner in Treasure Hunt, and for fronting the award-winning Challenge Anneka.
Her ambitious projects on Challenge Anneka raised millions of pounds worth of services and supplies for people in need, shining a spotlight on issues including homelessness, disability, and animal welfare.
Anneka's many other TV projects have included Wish You Were Here, Holiday, and Hell's Kitchen to name just a few, and her radio work has taken in six years as the BBC Radio 2 breakfast show host, as well as a number of other high-profile shows.
She said: “I haven’t danced since I was seven and Miss Beer sent me home from my ballet class because I was hopelessly uncoordinated. My family and friends haven’t seen me dance since, not at a wedding or round a handbag so it’s going to be a challenge for my partner. In fact I’ve asked for two, one on each side.
"I can’t see myself in a long frilly dress either. But I’m feeling recklessly excited. Strictly has always been my Autumn’s entertainment and now I’m part of it! My children will probably leave the country.”
Strictly partner: Kevin Clifton
Memorable moments: Although Anneka made sure everyone knew she was likely to be one of the worst dancers in the competition, she managed a very competent Waltz in week two.
But Anneka's success was short-lived, as her week three Kill Bill-themed Charleston was slated by the judges and sat at the bottom of the leaderboard with just 11 points.
It lead to her being voted out, making the TV and radio star go down in Strictly history as the person to get partner Kevin Clifton eliminated at the earliest ever point in the show.
Kevin had won in the previous series, reached the final four times, and come seventh once before crashing out with Anneka.
Eliminated: Anneka and Kevin were the second couple to be voted out, leaving the contest in week three in 14th place. It was dancer Kevin's earliest ever exit.
Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One on September 7.
