It’s that time of year again – Strictly Come Dancing’s celebrity cast for the coming series is being announced.
Find out more about one of the Glitterball Trophy contenders, Dev Griffin.
Revealed as a Strictly contestant: Dev was revealed as the 13th contestant this series during Nick Grimshaw’s BBC Radio 1 show on August 6.
Occupation: Radio DJ and presenter
Best known for: Dev is one of BBC Radio 1’s presenting team, currently covering the weekend afternoon shows.
He spent a long time on the early breakfast show before moving to weekend breakfast and then afternoons, and before that was a presenter on BBC Radio 1Xtra.
Dev started his career as a children’s TV presenter on BBC Two, has reached the final of Celebrity MasterChef, and recently took part in SAS Who Dares Wins for Stand Up To Cancer.
He said: “I just can’t believe I’m doing Strictly, it just doesn’t feel real yet! It’s going to be so much fun, but just to be clear, I’m not doing this to take part, I’m totally in it to win it! I can’t wait to meet my partner and start practising."
Memorable moments: In movie week, Dev and Dianne delighted viewers with their Aladdin-themed couple's choice routine, which scored a huge 36 points.
Judge Motsi Mabuse called it "one of those dances we will remember forever", but their success was short lived...
Despite having been touted as a likely finalist, the judges gave Dev very mediocre scores for his week four Cha Cha and he landed in the dance-off against Emma Weymouth, with all four judges inexplicably choosing to send Dev home.
He looked devastated and Dianne sobbed her heart out during what should have been their final dance, with the other contestants and dancers looking understandably shocked as show fans voiced their anger on Twitter.
Strictly partner: Dianne Buswell
Eliminated: Dev was a shock exit in week four of the competition, coming a very unexpected 13th in the series.
Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One on September 7.
