He’s suffered many a trip, fall and blunder as he tries his hand at new sports, always with a smile on his face, so he’s the perfect candidate to throw himself into the Strictly experience.

Mike can also call on colleagues past and present for their Strictly tips and experiences, including Chris Hollins, Kate Silverton, Naga Munchetty, and Susanna Reid.

He said: “I am so excited to be joining this year’s Strictly Come Dancing. I’ve heard so many wonderful things from colleagues over the years so thrilled I’m now getting the chance.

“I know I will completely throw myself into the whole experience and I’m sure will love it from start to finish.

“I may have tried and profiled over 500 sports over the years in my Saturday morning BBC Breakfast slot but think the Strictly challenge could be the greatest. Bring on the glitter!”

Memorable moments: He may not have been the strongest dancer, but Mike arguably had more memorable moments than anyone else in 2019.

Mike attacked every week with enthusiasm, often making for funny performances, but ended up in the dance off four weeks in a row knocking out David James, Catherine Tyldesley and Emma Weymouth before he was finally defeated by Michelle Visage.

Poor Mike was targeted on social media with some pretty extreme abuse for staying in over what the public felt were stronger dancers, with some comments even including death threats, and he was forced to make a public plea for it to stop while Katya quit social media over the furore.

But they still turned up with smiles on their faces each week and one of Mike's funniest moments came during his farewell dance, where he tried to hoist Katya above his head and got her stuck in a very awkward position.

The pair then lead a conga around the ballroom as they made a joyful goodbye to the show.

Placed: Mike and Katya were in the dance off a whopping four weeks in a row, but were finally voted out in week eight, placing eighth.
