Who is Nish Kumar? Everything you need to know about the host of BBC Two's The Mash Report

Comedian Nish Kumar will appear in a new BBC satirical sketch show starting in July. Here's all you need to know about the funnyman.

Who is Nish Kumar?

Comedian Nish Kumar was born in Wandsworth, London and began his stand-up career in 2006. He has appeared on many television comedy shows, including Mock the Week and Have I Got News For You. The stand-up is also a former presenter of Radio 4 Extra’s Newsjack.

How did he get started in comedy?

Kumar studied English and History at Durham University and was part of a comedy sketch group called The Durham Revue. After leaving university in 2007, he worked in a number of office jobs while gigging.

Kumar has been a performer at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival since 2010, the first two years as part of a double act with Tom Neenan called Gentlemen Of Leisure.

Nish performed his debut solo show at the festival in 2012, titled Who is Nish Kumar? His 2015 show, Long Word... Long Word... Blah Blah Blah... I'm so Clever, was nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy Award, as was his 2016 show, Actions Speak Louder Than Words, Unless You Shout the Words Real Loud.

When can you watch him on television next?

Kumar is the host of a new Thursday night BBC Two show called The Mash Report. Assisted by the writers of website The Daily Mash, the series takes a satirical look at the news of the week and is filmed in front of a live studio audience. The series began on Thursday July 20 and runs for 10 weeks: you can catch any episodes you have missed using the BBC's iPlayer on BT TV Catch-up.
